Catalogue: Duplicating Items
The [Duplicate] toolbar icon in the [Tools] toolbar tab is provided to aid in the cataloging of new items based upon existing items, especially if the original items have been heavily catalogued and indexed.
By selecting the [Duplicate] toolbar icon, the Catalogue Items Manager displays three possible duplication options on a drop-down menu:
Create New From Currently Selected Item - a new copy of the currently selected item is created in the database, with all current catalog data duplicated into the new record. If the auto-generate barcode option is turned on, the new record is automatically given the next barcode number in the catalogue.
Import into Existing from Current ISBN - this option requires the user to have created a new item manually, as if they were about to catalogue the item themselves. Under normal circumstances, entering the ISBN would search the HUB Bibliographic database and populate the item as best as possible from the data found. This menu option however, instead searches the local database for existing items possessing this ISBN (serial number) - if found, the currently displayed item is populated with data from the identified item in the database possessing the specified ISBN (serial number) rather than the HUB.
Note that while creating a new item may automatically assign a new, auto-generated barcode number to the record, it can be changed to a different barcode number in the normal way simply by over-typing the barcode number in the field then saved.
